Lubricants

Commonly called ‘lube’, this slippery stuff decreases friction between two surfaces and will make most any form of contact, be is a massage or sexual more fun. Granted there are many who haven’t yet discovered the fun that comes from a the right bottle of lubricants but we hope to help you understand the fun you have been missing out on and we’ll also tell you what additives to be wary of.

So why lubricant?

Being slipper and wet is essential for sex to be fun and pleasurable, if your dry you will quickly experience chafing and this is not a good thing. A water based lubricant will allow you to engage in long sexual sessions with latex condoms (these tend to feel like sand paper if your dry), and a few different lubricants will give you the flexibility to go beyond vaginal intercourse. It will also improve your experience with sex toys and assist with certain sexual positions.

Keep in mind your anus and rectum are not self-lubricating, and you will need a none-petroleum based lube to prevent the "rotting" of condoms and sex toys which can destroy one in a few minutes, and the other in one sexual session. A good water based lube will work well and is very important when it comes to anal play, it even makes regular masturbation more fun. And don't forget "surprise sex" or random sexual acts that can be fun for both men and women, but it also requires some ‘instant’ wetness.

You can use lube to increases sensitivity when wearing a condom but re would not recommend this as the condom may slip off! But most men take advantage of the desensitizing nature of a condom to last longer anyways.

You may find that some women feel embarrassed or inadequate when you use lube, others feel uncomfortable as they have never used it so keep this in mind before you introduce them to a warming or cooling lubricant. Just make sure you communicate with your partner, if they feel inadequate or unsure with them selves remind them a man can become instantly aroused and most women need time to get the juices flowing. Further, as women you shouldn’t be embarrassed by the use of lube in sex, there are plenty of perfectly normal factors that can cause or contribute to vaginal dryness.

To list a few diabetes, cancer and other illness, along with physical and emotional Stress tend to dry a girl out. Naturally talking with your lover and bonding with them will help emotional stress, and physical exercise and activities will help with physical stress. You will find that drugs both medical and illegal can also dry out mucous membranes in the vagina. Yes cigarettes and coffee are also drugs, so to keep this short, stay all natural with your life style and body, stick with a healthy diet and maintain a physically active lifestyle to keep things wet and working properly.

Some thing to look out for come with age, namely declining estrogen levels which normally starts in a woman’s late thirties, will contribute to vaginal dryness. This can also occur during pre and post menopausal stages. If a women experiences a lack of moisture at a younger age, it could be the effects of their life style like drugs as stated above, or it could be due to a natural dip in their menstrual cycle which tends to be a side effect from taking oral contraceptives.

Slippery Lube Guide

The lubricants you can use come in a large number of variety and serve a multitude of purposes. Let us help you pick the right one...

Water-Based Lubricants

A water based lubricant is your best "first option", they are condom and sex toy friendly, easily flavored, have a smooth thin consistency, and tend to be safe to eat but read the package to make sure.

If they dry out a little water or natural juices will re-hydrate them, but because they are water based you can't use them in the shower or bath as they wash off easy. Also with them being a water based lube, the skin tends to absorb them so reapplication is usually required.

Silicone-Based Lubricants

This is a better long sex option and is better suited to bear back or un-protected sex and use with glass, metal, acrylic and even some plastic sex toys.

Most silicone lubricants are almost completely odor-free and hypoallergenic, and because its silicone the skin will not absorbed it so it lasts much longer. Silicone is also a great option for shower of bath sex because it is more difficult to wash off, but it is body friendly and it doesn’t affect the body’s pH balance like water-based lubes can.

As always silicone WILL rot or otherwise damage condoms and any sex toy that is not glass, metal or acrylic, and may damage your plastic sex toys as well, last, don't use it for oral sex the taste is just ick...

But when you use metal, glass, acrylic, or its going to be some long intercourse and shower/bath sex, silicone lube cant be beat!

Flavored Lubricants

Tasty edible slippery fun, a flavored lubricant is mainly for oral sex treat and as such should only be used for oral sex.

They are usually a water based, and that means an easy to clean up, they can also ingredients to enhance the sense of touch where applied.

The problem with flavored lubes are they tend to be high in sugar so DO NOT use them for vaginal sex unless you want to deal with a yeast infection.

That said keep this on the outside of your body boys and girls, for a external only lube this stuff is the best option.

Oil-Based Lubricants

Oil based lubricants are not ment so much for sex as they are for massage, so when you buy one, ensure it has natural ingredients like organic oils or skin softeners and other things to moisturize and condition skin.

Again I will say use these for massage only, do not use them with latex, and oil massage is done only to the outside of the body. So get something with a nice sent and she'll love you for the rub down.

Warming and Cooling Lubricants

These lubricants will make the area they are applied to feel warm or cool, and can change temperature when you blow on them or rub them in. We recommend you do a small area test on your sensitive bits in the shower first, go after areas like the nipples, inner thighs, penis, and the clitoral hood.

If your body takes well to one of these lubes it can add a unique aspect of fun to sex as they enhance sexual sensitivity and heighten sensation in women.

But if its uncomfortable then for you these ay be a bad idea, still every body is different so you should at the very least try it once.

Anal Sex Lubricants

Anal sex can be a lot of fun but their are a few rules to always remember with an anal lubricant.

FIRST, never get a numbing anal lubricant, that is a very delicate spot and you want to be able t feel what's going on down there, if anal sex doesn't feel good then it may not be for you. If your partner can't handle that, then get another partner.

SECOND, the anus and rectum are not self lubricating, so a good water or silicon based lube is a must! Just remember that silicon lube cannot be used with silicon or latex toys.

Arousal Lubricants

These lubes come with additives that stimulant or increase blood flow to the area where it is applied.

The up side is sensitive spots like the g-spot, penis, or clitoris tend to engorge with blood making them easier to stimulate and adds intensity to the sensation.

But the effects tend to be long lasting, sometimes up to an hour, so again, spot check yourself before sex and decide if this is right for you.

Tips for a first time with lube

You should never be embarrassed about using a lube, its as natural to have around as condoms!

Before you buy a giant bottle, see about a trial size. Usually a one or two-use sample is around the sex store some place.

Easy to close lubes that come in easy to apply containers with snap tops are pumps are a big plus!

When using a personal lubricant, apply it on anything that will be inserted, such as fingers, toys, or the penis. Don't forget to use it on areas of the body like the female genitals and anus.
