Mycoplasma Genitalium

The bacteria known as Mycoplasma Genitalium lives inside cells. It has several subspecies of which several cause disease in humans causing Mycoplasma Genitalium (M. Genitalium or ‘MG’) which is believed to be involved in Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID).

MG can infect the eyes, genitals, lungs, and urinary tract. For example if an infected person coughs near your face, you might inhale it and have a bacterial infection of the lungs. Further having unprotected sex with a carrier can expose your genitals and urinary tract to infection.

Mycoplasma Genitalium is growing due to it being difficult to accurately detect. Research shows that if left untreated long enough it can even cause infertility.

MG has symptoms similar to other venereal diseases like Gonorrhea or Chlamydia, it s important to get a Pap test if you have any issues.

Doctors do not have an effective way to identify this STD. The problem are caused by the symptoms are often confused for other illness'. Further the bacteria is extremely difficult to culture even in a laboratory. As a result they will usually rule out other possible illness's before concluding that MG is the problem. Sometimes your sympltoms will let a doctor know that MG is the true problem.

Treatment

Once MG is the known culprit your doctor will probably recommend a regimen of antibiotics.

Final Thoughts

Condoms will minimize the risk of transmission, but they will not prevent it. If you must have sex we recomend you use a condom, but we would encourage you to be cured first and abstain from sex until the bacteria has been cleaned out of you body.
