Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids, or 'piles' are a very common medical problem, in fact over half the population will develop them during their life. They usually occur in people over the age of thirty, and are located in the wall of the anus and rectum. An inflamed pile can enlarge into sac-like bulge that either protrude from the anus, or stays tucked up inside.

Externally hemorrhoids look like a puffy spot on the skin near the anus or sphincter and are a swelling that is just under the surface of the skin. They’re usually painless but if a blood clot develops in one then you will develop thrombosis and the hemorrhoid becomes a hard lump that is blue or purple in color and can bleed if it ruptures. Worst of all, it hurts. bowel movements can become extremely painful and the area is so sensitive that even standing or sitting is uncomfortable.

Internal Hemorrhoids develop farther up in the rectum and rarely cause any pain, since this tissue doesn’t have as many sensory nerves. Most people don’t even notice they have them until there’s bleeding or a visible protrusion. It does become painful when the hemorrhoid prolapses, meaning that it protrudes into the anal passage, or past the anus, and cannot be pushed back inside. This is usually caused by straining during a bowel movement.

What can Cause Hemorrhoids?

For the most part a hemorrhoid is caused by an irritation inside the anus or intestines, this is often associated with some sort of damage to the area and can result in a minor infection. This causes pressure on the tiny veins inside the anus and rectum, and can cause the tissues supporting the vessels to stretch. Consequently, the vessels dilate, causing their walls to “become thin and bleed”, and if the stretching continues, the vessels may dilate and protrude.

There are also number of things can contribute to and/or aggravate this condition, such as: Aging, Obesity, Excessive straining during a bowel movement, prolonged constipation or diarrhea, pregnancy and childbirth, the overuse of laxatives or enemas, sitting for extended periods of time, lifting heavy objects; and/or, anal intercourse.

How do i know if I have a hemorrhoid?

Bend over and look at your butt with a mirror, if you see puffy spots on your anus you probably have a hemorrhoid, if the puffy spot is swollen, you feel discomfort or pain near the anus or inside the rectum, anal itch, rectal bleeding, painful bowel movements; and/or, a sensitive lump(s) in or around the anus odd or good you have a hemorrhoid.

Treatment

There are several ways to treat hemorrhoids, if you have damaged your insides with anal play or pushing to hard to release a bowel movement, often you can cure it with very thorough anal hygiene. To do this you need a way to squirt water up the rectum without forcing it up the rectum or touching the anus. Often you can get a shower head that has a hand held attachment which comes with 3 to 4 feet of hose. Simply remove the shower head and use the hose to directly wash the anus and inside of the rectum after every bowel movement (or as soon as possible). DO NOT force water up the rectum, simply clean the area thoroughly and relax, the water will naturally go up and right back out cleaning the area, this should provide immediate relief of itching and burning caused by your waste touching the damaged skin and will allow the hemorrhoid to heal.

Though what is listed below will not improve the underlying condition, non-prescription products such as Preparation H can relieve mild symptoms of internal and external hemorrhoid.

For anything major you may need to see a doctor about ‘freezing the hemorrhoid’ with liquid nitrogen or surgically removing it. Another method that can be used is called ‘rubber band’ ligation, which involves placing a band around the hemorrhoid to cut off its blood supply until it eventually falls off.
